Day 4
Pattern: Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop Classic Oxfort Button-Up
Size: 4years (Elijah)
Fabric: A very fancy business shirt that I upcycled
I have to say that I love the finished product, it was the process of getting it that wasnt quite as enjoyable. The cutting out took a fair while because I had to jiggle and wriggle the pieces to make sure I got everything cut out of the top. A bonus of using a mens shirt was that I could use the buttons and button holes down the front. Amy's pattern has instructions on how to fold the front pattern piece in by 1.75" and where to place the fold to utilise the buttons and holes.
The only thing I forgot was to cut the yolk on the opposite dircetion. so the stripes are going up and down instead of across the back like they should be. Ah well, its still very stylish.
I am amazed by the quality of the shirt that you end up with when using this pattern. the design is spot on, its a mini business shirt. I love the cleeve cuffs and plackards (I have never done those before and I was astounded that I actually did them and how professional they look. The tutorial explains everything in very detailed and understandable language. The only part I found missing was when I did the collar, it didn't say which of the long sides to sew down. There is a slight angle on the collar and I think I sewed down the wrong side, however, in saying this, it still fit and looked perfect.
The fact that this shirt turned out SO GOOD, might actually convince me to use the other two very fancy business shirts I found on the free table at my local kindergarten. I think however, I will do a short sleeve version to give me a break from all the fiddly little bits that took so long in this shirt.
Peek-a-Boo!!!! see what I mean about the amazing plackards and sleeve cuff detail???
Amy is a GENIOUS
Haha, I asked him to show me his muscles!!
Now he just needs some smart pants and he'll be all set for church.
